Teeth whitening products have dramatically increased in popularity over the past decade. Crest’s latest take-home teeth whitening product is the Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal. Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal is based on similar teeth whitening formulas used by dentists, but is designed to be used in the home once a day for 30 minutes for a time period of two weeks.

How Does Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal Work?

Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal consists of thin, plyable plastic strips that are coated with a teeth whitening gel that contains hydrogen peroxide. The strips are applied to your teeth along your smile line and use their gel to remove the stain build-up beneath your teeth enamel. The Advanced seal designed has been improved over earlier models enough thtat it will hold even if you drink water while wearing the Whitestrips. The Crest Whitestrips limit your exposure to peroxide in order to prevent irritating your gums, and they will not whiten any crowns, caps, veneers, or fillings, but should not be used by patients who wear braces. The strips are also not designed for children who are under 12 years of age.

How Do You Use Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal?

There are three basic steps to using the Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal. First you need to remove the whitestrip from its foil patch. Crest reccomends that you do not brush your teeth prior to using the white strips. After you remove it from the packaging, peel the strip from its backing. Then, apply the gel side of the strip to your teeth. It should adhere to your teeth. You will need to align the whitestrip with your gum line and lightly press down on it to ensure it has solid contact with your teeth. Then, fold the leftover portion of the strip behind your teeth to keep it in place. After you start using Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal, you will need to continue using for 30 minutes a day for at least two weeks to start seeing results. If your teeth have not acheived the desired whiteness after two weeks, you will want to consider repeating the process for another two week cycle. If at any time your gums or teeth start to become too sensitive, you should cease using the product and seek advice from your dentist.

How Does the Brite Smile Teeth Whitening Procedure Work?

The Brite Smile Teeth Whitening procedure is one of the more popular teeth bleaching systems available at dental practices and Brite Smile locations in the United States. The procedure costs a bit more than what a take-home teeth whitening kit will cost you, but in a single, one hour treatment can significant improve the appearance of your teeth and smile. Although an at-home kit can achieve similar results, they take a significantly longer timeframe to produce results that you can observe.

What is Contained in the Britesmile Whitening Solution?

The Britesmile teeth whitening procedure makes use of a hydrogen peroxide gel and a lamp designed to help accelerate the bleaching process of your teeth. Depending on the discoloration level of your teeth, a cosmetic dentist can choose to use either a 15 or 25 percent hydrogen peroxide gel where a teeth whitening clinic is limited to only a 15 percent solution. The Britesmile peroxide formulate is formulated to be cured by the activation lamp and also contains water and glycerin to help prevent dehydration from occurring in your teeth or mouth. The Britesmile light is made to be able to shine on all of your teeth on your smile line at the same time to produce even results.

What Happens During the Britesmile Teeth Whitening Procedure?

Your dentist will first examine your teeth and gums to make sure that the peroxide will not create significant discomfort from existing dental hygiene issues. If your oral health is considered satisfactory, then he or she will select the right amount of whitening gel and strength to apply to your teeth. The Britesmile light is then illuminated over your teeth to begin the oxidation process and is repeated for three, 20-minute applications.
How Long Does Britesmile Make My Teeth White?

This will just depend on your personal habits. If you are a coffee or tea drinker, use tobacco products, or drink a lot of dark drinks, and do not regularly see your dentist, your teeth will discolor at a quicker rate requiring another Britesmile Teeth whitening procedure to keep your smile as white as possible.

Things to Consider Before Getting the Britesmile Teeth Whitening Procedure

The Britesmile company recommends that patients who are pregnant, nursing, are undergoing extensive orthodontic work, or have had a lot of dental work such as crowns/bridges, or dental veneers seek the advice of their regular dentist before pursuing the procedure. The approximate time you will be in the dental chair is only one hour, however, the cost of the procedure can range from $400-$650 at the time of this writing. Ensure you verify what your dental insurance plan will cover before assuming that the Britesmile procedure will be fully covered.

Everyone wants a dazzling, sparkling smile especially when looks can play such a large role in your professional and personal life today. The brighter and whiter your teeth, the better your smile and entire appearance will be. Whether you choose a “take-home” teeth whitening kit or a professional treatment with a cosmetic dentist, you should educate yourself about teeth whitening before choosing a procedure to undertake.

Why Do Teeth Become Discolored?

Everyone starts with sparkling white teeth because of the porcelain like covering substance called enamel on your teeth. Microscopic crystalline rods make up tooth enamel, which protects the tooth while chewing, from gnashing, trauma, and decay from sugar. Over time, the enamel gets worn out allowing the yellow dentin, the core material of the tooth, to show through. When we chew, enamel develops micro cracks while dentin remains intact. It is these cracks, which later fill up with stains and debris that causes the teeth to take on a dull appearance.

What Are the Types of Tooth Stain?

Extrinsic stains are those that appear on a tooth’s surface from exposure to tobacco, food, and dark colored beverages such as coffee. Superficial extrinsic stains can be removed with brushing and cleaning while many extrinsic stains can require extensive treatments like bleaching.

Intrinsic stains are those that form on the interior of the tooth. They mostly occur from aging, trauma, exposure to mineral during tooth formation, and too much fluoride ingestion. Intrinsic stains were once considered too stubborn to be removed, but with modern technology can now be addressed.

General factors that can cause your teeth to stain are your eating habits, smoking, drug and chemical use, grinding, trauma, and the starting color of your teeth.

Options to Whiten Your Teeth

There are three options for teeth whitening: Peroxide Gel Application, Lower Concentration Peroxide Gel, and OVer-the_counter Whitening kits. The direct application of peroxide gel to your teeth for timeframes of 15-20 minutes to one hour have the quickest effect on the appearance of your teeth. This application is normally done by a cosmetic dentist and may require several sittings or appointments for people with significant staining of their teeth. The next option is a take-home kit that your cosmetic dentist provides. The take-home kit has a lower concentration of peroxide and you have a custom-fitted mouthguard that the peroxide is poured into for use in the home. The downside of this type of treatment is that it puts the onus on the patient to remember to administer the whitening treatment. The final method is the over-the-counter teeth whitening kit. They have a much lower level of perioxide and require more frequent wear than the variant you would get from your cosmetic dentist. The mouthpiece for these kits is also not custom-fitted which can result in un-even cleaning or whitening of your teeth.

Side Effects of Teeth Whitening

Sensitivity of the teeth and gums is the primary drawback to using a teeth whitening method or procedure. Many times, patients will experience gum or tooth discomfort if their overall dental health is poor or the concentration of peroxide is too great. If you are using an over-the-counter bleaching agent and start experiencing discomfort while using the treatment, you should stop and seek advice from your dentist on how to proceed. You will also see if you have any dental crowns, implants, inlays, outlays, or porcelin veneers, that they are not affected by teeth whitening procedures. The discolored teeth around them will improve in color while the implants will not.

How Do You Keep Your Teeth White?

In order to maintain the bright, white color of your teeth after undergoing a teeth whitening procedure, then you need to work on improving your overall dental health. You should also try to avoid dark colored food and beverages as much as possible and increase your frequency of brushing throughout the day especially after drinking coffee or smoking.
